From Regional to Global: A Cultural Fusion
Our world has contracted due to the digitization of mass media. Today, a teenager in Tokyo can listen to Latin American reggaeton music, while a person in New York can binge watch Korean dramas. Global access to knowledge is transforming societal cultures and fostering greater inclusivity and diversity. Global empathy is being fostered as a result of the fact that tales from all around the world are being read by a wide audience. The difficulty for media producers, as (Kolodzy, 2012) notes to achieve a balance between universal appeal and regional relevance.
The beauty of the diversity of global content cannot be denied. However, it also poses difficulties in terms of authenticity and cultural sensitivity. Due to the size of the global market, stereotyping is more likely to occur, which could lead to cultural misrepresentation. However, there is a bright side. Additionally, this international media environment provides a forum for people of color to tell their real stories and challenge common prejudices. According to (Kolodzy, 2012), this fusion of journalism and media calls for a better appreciation of the tales being told. It is in our best interests as viewers to exercise discernment and look for authentic storylines.
